Due to the coronavirus epidemic, on June 30, the RA Minister of Finance Atom Janjughazyan and the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Armenia Jun Yamada signed a grant agreement on "Economic and Social Development".
The agreement envisages providing 400 million Japanese Yen (approximately USD 3.8 million) grant to equip Armenia's healthcare system with state-of-the-art medical equipment and ambulances. In particular, the support will provide up-to-date medical MRI equipment, which will greatly help to increase the level of diagnosis of various diseases and availability in the country, as well as equipping 4 WD ambulances, especially to provide emergency medical care to the population in hard-to-reach areas.
The main goal of the program is to support the capacity building of the health systems of the partner countries affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. The amount of the grant was determined taking into account the positive evaluation of the previously implemented programs.
